Ms. Maria Contreras-Sweet, the newly confirmed Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA), visited with Air Force members attending a Boots to Business class in the Pentagon, Washington, D.C., April 15, 2014. Boots to Business: From Service to Startup is a SBA sponsored, worldwide program offered as a component of the Department of Defense’s redesigned Transition Assistance Program (TAP) renamed Transition GPS. The three step training program was developed to introduce transitioning service members to business ownership opportunities. The program also helps to ensure that every transitioning service member has access to a standardized entrepreneurship training track, as well contact information with small business resources in their local communities. Boot to Business is offered by the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University (SU). The program is operated by SU’s institute for Veterans and military families in partnership with SBA resource partners. Contreras-Sweet is the SBA’s 24th Administrator. She was nominated for the position by President Obama on Jan. 15, 2014. She was confirmed by the Senate on March 27, 2014 and she assumed role of her position on April 7, 2014.
